Mathare Family Hope Center Mathare Family Hope Center is situated in Pangani next to the Mathare slum in Nairobi, Kenya. This shanty community is characterized by high population, difficult living conditions. substance abuse and high crime. Most of the Mathare residents have no jobs and some can earn very low wages as casual laborers. There is an increase in the number of destitute children, most of whom are orphans, or part of a single parent family. Families in Mathare live in despair due to the cruel conditions of poverty. Children have no opportunity for education, proper food, basic health care, thus their development and growth is effected. In the year 2000, Mathare family Hope Center was established with the aim of developing strategies and programs focusing on Christian Community Development. Currently Mathare Family Hope Center is involved in the lives of over 300 children and their families, and more are being added each year. A chance to make a difference in a child's life...
